Course Description

This workshop focuses on helping participants to understand developmental disabilities and how to work with these students in the classroom, with the wide range of student competencies. It provides information regarding definitions related to developmental disabilities, how these affect learning as well as strategies and techniques that can be useful in the classroom setting. Case studies and assignments are also provided. While completing this workshop, participants will be asked to reflect upon current knowledge and school environment and to expand their knowledge through assignments, research, use of resources, and online interaction.

This workshop is designed to help educators:

  • Acquire knowledge of the causes and characteristics of various developmental disabilities;
  • Understand the general and specific educational needs of students with developmental disabilities;
  • Gain an understanding of collaborative strategies to enhance the effectiveness of the school experience for children with developmental disabilities; and
  • Acquire knowledge about the assessment of children with developmental disabilities.
