Course Description

This course is an introduction to screenwriting for short screenplays. Through lectures, screenings, group discussions, and critiques, students will engage with the fundamentals of cinematic storytelling, such as character arcs, plot, structure, subplot, subtext, pacing, and dialogue. As a process-oriented course, students should develop their own, 5-10 minute screenplay with the goal of completing a first draft by the end of the course. No previous screenwriting experience necessary.

Online courses are delivered in an asynchronous format through a series of tutorials and related assignments which students may complete at their own pace on our Learning Management System, Canvas. The instructor is available throughout the course time period for questions and discussions. Learn more about what to expect in an online course at OCAD U.
