CSAP-N132 - Still Life and Product Photography
Course Description
This hybrid photography course combines in-person studio practice with online post-production software skills. Students will learn how to shoot still life photographs, from creating a concept to editing it in Photoshop. Whether for artistic or business purposes, students will produce one-of-a-kind, modern still life photographs, exploring the creative process, from doing set designs, experimenting with various lighting setups, to shooting, and editing. This course allows students to imagine, experiment, and find the photographic approach that best represents their needs, as well as gain an understanding of how to use Adobe CC Photoshop to enhance images and produce documentation for online formats.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
- Adopt the proper equipment for still life and product photography,
- Create mood boards and sketches for your shoot,
- Source props and materials,
- Thoughtfully apply form, geometry, and composition theories into photography work,
- Photograph objects using natural and studio lights,
- Apply colour theory and styling into photography work,
- Develop lighting techniques to use when photographing reflective objects,
- Differentiate between diffused and specular light,
- Use Adobe CC Photoshop to edit in post-production,
- Apply best practices for both artistic and ecommerce photographs.
Students are responsible for purchasing their own software. Adobe CC is required for this course.

CSAP-N121 Introduction to Digital Photography, or equivalent experience.
