Course Description

Duration: 6 weeks

In this introductory course, students will learn the basics of watercolour painting, and develop their skills with the medium, as well as exploring watercolour as a tool for creative expression. Topics include colour mixing and theory, brushwork, and wash techniques. Studio work will be supported by demonstrations, presentations, and critiques.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Practice a range of contemporary watercolour techniques,
  • Engage in conversations about the watercolour medium,
  • Apply basic qualities of watercolour paint, including transparency, and permanence,
  • Distinguish the relationships between pigment, water and surface,
  • Work with the principal methods and tools of watercolour painting,
  • Develop a personal style based on the key attributes of watercolour painting.
