This workshop explores contemporary feminist art practices, critically empowering students to engage with key issues through their creative projects. Drawing inspiration from influential feminist artists and theorists, students will conceptualize and produce an artwork, addressing themes such as identity, representation, gender, and social justice. The workshop will include brief talks, quick readings, video screenings, and group critiques, providing a comprehensive understanding of feminist art's historical and contemporary developments. By the end of the workshop, students will have a deeper understanding of feminist theory and art practices, as well as a final project that reflects their exploration of these themes.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Develop critical thinking skills through discussions and critiques of feminist art and theory,
  • Explore key themes in contemporary feminist art, such as identity, intersectionality, and gender representation.
  • Engage with these ideas through art forms of their choice, including drawing, painting, collage, installation, and performance
  • Challenge societal norms with their work by creating a final project that addresses contemporary feminist issues, showcasing personal engagement with the material and demonstrating an artistic voice.

REQUIRED SUPPLIES: Students are encouraged to bring a sketchbook, pens, pencils, and any personal materials they wish to use for their projects. Specific supplies are recommended, depending on the direction of students' individual projects.
