CSDI-N121 - Type and Image Studio
Course Description
The combination of type and image is a vital form of visual communication conveying complex ideas, construct meanings, implied narratives, and emotions. Students will explore the relationship between type and image across print and digital media. Course projects will combine visual and verbal elements to create sophisticated design, while looking at the formal considerations of materials in art and design production. Students are encouraged to use traditional media and digital computer programs, with an emphasis on the exploration of and through materials, process, and iteration.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
- Recognize basic typographic anatomy, and both traditional and contemporary typefaces,
- Use type and images in artworks confidently,
- Strengthen the quality of type/image-based art and design work,
- Stronger communicators about design work,
- Demonstrate skills using collage materials, and type and images as a component of visual communication,
- Utilize type and images to meet the formal and conceptual objectives of projects.
Students are responsible for purchasing their own software. Adobe CC is required for this course. Adobe CC Illustrator will be needed to complete assignments.
