SCS Teaching Award: Henry Zhang

We are pleased to announce that instructor Henry Zhang is the recipient of the 2024-2025 OCAD U SCS Teaching Award, which recognizes outstanding instructors at the School of Continuing Studies. Henry teaches Woodworking Fundamentals and Intermediate Woodworking Studio.

“Henry is by far the most thorough, engaged, and passionate instructor I have had. He knows and loves his medium and passes that energy to his students. His discussions are detailed and informative, he invites participation and is patient and in depth with his answers. Absolutely loved his class.“ – Student from Woodworking Fundamentals, Summer 2024

Henry Zhang is a Toronto-based designer/maker and a woodworker who graduated from OCAD University in Environmental Design and a minor in Furniture Design. He is currently a Sessional Instructor at OCAD University and an Architectural Designer at Hariri Pontarini Architects in Toronto.

Zhang believes that each piece of work he creates should have a story to tell or a message to send out. He strives to stay true to his materials and honest in his methods of construction. He perfects each piece with meticulousness and attention to detail. His goal is for each piece to withstand the test of time.

Henry's goals are to become an inspiration and a positive influence for others through teaching, learning, and growing. He wishes to continue to excel in his field, and most importantly, to continue making beautiful things.
