In this intermediate studio course, students use the lost wax process to cast small bronze sculptures. Topics include wax work for ceramic shell casting, metal finishing, and working with the bronze patina. Presentations and discussions on the use of bronze casting in contemporary and historic art practices will supplement the course's studio work. Students are required to provide their own safety gear: work gloves, dust masks (paper ones are the minimum requirement), and vapour masks for patinas (eg. half face NIOSH 07025).
Please note that courses may fill up early or be cancelled due to low enrollment. Students are encouraged to register early, at least ten (10) days prior to the start date of the course.
