This studio course is for students with some painting experience who wish to enhance their practice through the development of intermediate conceptual, formal, and technical painting skills. Using both acrylic and oil-based paint, class projects will explore traditional and experimental painting materials and methods. Students will learn how to derive imagery from a conceptual framework, an observed motif, as well as from the processes of collage and abstraction. Studio work will be supported by slide presentations that explore examples of historic and contemporary painting with accompanying class discussions about content, technique, and style.
