This new course will introduce students to the artists, collectors, and dealers that shape the art market in Canada. The course will include slide lectures, field trips to local auction houses, and visits to private and museum collections. Students will discover the relationship between patronage and production, how historical and economic factors affect the art market, and how the art market reflects our identity as Canadians. The course includes a survey of historical art groups in Canada such as the Group of Seven, Beaver Hall, les Automatistes, Painters Eleven, General Idea, and the Royal Art Lodge.
After enrolling in a course, please allow up to 5 hours for your student data to migrate to Canvas. Please note that courses may fill up early or be cancelled due to low enrollment. Students are encouraged to register early, at least ten (10) days prior to the start date of the course.
