Course Description

This seminar course introduces students to the history, form, and function of furniture design from the past 100 years. The diverse cultural influences on the development of international furniture design will be considered. The course covers the development of styles and their sources, as well as the evolution and organization of furniture manufacturing, from machine technologies to the re-emergence of craft within the studio furniture movement. The impact of globalization on the industry will also be explored.
